No rehearsal for Navy dance performances: Dutton | Canberra time

news, latest news

Defense Minister Peter Dutton has ordered the Navy chief to stop hiring dance troupes for official events. 101 Doll Squadron performed at the official commissioning ceremony for HMAS Supply in Sydney on Saturday. The choice of dancers raised eyebrows after the group twerked and performed other moves in front of the Navy ship, in what is usually a fairly solemn event. “It wasn’t pretty, it won’t happen again,” Mr Dutton told Nine on Friday. “Good man, the Chief of the Navy, but I’ve made it very clear that this won’t happen again.” Labor MP Richard Marles said the dance routine made his week. “I knew Peter Dutton was going to make an impression as Defense Minister, but I really didn’t expect it,” he said. “Our haters and enemies out there will twerk in their boots when they see this vision.” Mr Dutton laughed at the controversy. “That’s the element of surprise,” he said.
