Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has given major blockbuster movies to moviegoers like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya and the superhero movie Krrish. But do you know that Rakesh Roshan was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in 2000 after the release of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai?

It was in 2000 when Rakesh Roshan introduced his son Hrithik Roshan with the film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. The film was a huge success and broke all box office records. The film even featured in the Guinness World Records 2022 with the most awards won. Hrithik Roshan became an overnight sensation with this film. But after his release, two unidentified people attacked Rakesh Roshan which came as a shock to the Bollywood industry.

He was shot dead on January 21, 2000, near his office on Tilak Road in Santacruz West in Mumbai. The assailants fired six shots, two of which hit him. One of the two bullets hit him in the left arm, and the other missed by a hairline. The two assailants left the area as he collapsed to the ground after the incident.

According to reports, Rakesh was asked for a 50% share in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, which he refused. After that, he started receiving threats. Reports say Rakesh Roshan’s killer Sunil Gaikwad was a suspect in 11 murder cases.

Hrithik once said that his father was in debt before the movie Kaho Na Pyar Hai, and he started to get extremely upset. He said that Kaho Na Pyaar Hai ended up saving his father’s directing career at that time. In the past five to six years, he hasn’t had a hit movie.

And now, when the film was doing very well at the box office, the assailants demanded money and when they refused, they shot him, Hrithik Roshan said.

Recalling the incident at the 2001 Filmfare Awards, Hrithik said his father, who believes in good work, was recently attacked by unknown assailants. He further stated that day that he just couldn’t help but lose faith in hard work and goodness in the world.
